SMHS Softball State Play-Offs

Tomorrow, Friday May 4th in Phoenix, we (San Manuel Varsity Volleyball) play our first game of the Division IV state play-offs! The team is currently ranked 2nd out of the 50 teams participating in the Division IV state tournament just behind the #1 ranked team Pusch Ridge. The Lady Miners will be playing against Baghdad at 6 p.m. If they achieve that win they will play Saturday morning, May 5th, at 9 a.m. against the winner of Hayden and St. David. This team has all the potential to go all the way to the top. This year's team is a very young team, but has a lot of talent. Only four seniors are participating this year (including myself) and the rest are underclassmen. Come and support your Lady Miners at Rose Monfford Complex in Phoenix, Arizona! Let's bring home a win!

Dress Code Dilemma

Lately our school's dress code has not been enforced and I think the students are taking advantage of that. I really don't see the harm in wearing a shirt with a logo on it. Ya, some people can't afford certain brands of clothing but we're still allowed to wear jeans and there are really expensive brands of jeans out there. This always seems to happen at the end of the year. Everyone starts dressing the way they please with short shorts, ripped pants, and shirts with logos on them. If they aren't offensive or too reveling there really shouldn't be a problem. I am all for self-expression and I believe that the way you dress can reflect your personality and our dress code takes that away from us. Dress codes are being used in a lot of schools lately and I can't help but question if they are effect or doing what the school set out for them to do. Of course students should dress accordingly for school and not wear revealing items of clothing. If an honors student is sitting in class here and decided to wear colored shoe laces I think they shouldn't be pulled out of class to sit and wait to be told to not wear them. Yes, we have rules, but then again we are all supposed to be adults right? Adults make their own decisions.
